My take on
openGym (DuarteSantos8/openGym) after running it on a Linux box with no Docker:
- ✅ It runs without Docker. The server is plain Node and the screen is a normal web app, so two commands got it going.
- 📱 It feels like a real phone app. Guest mode, a starter plan in one tap, a weight chart, and 5,632 exercises with pictures.
- 🔒 Your data stays yours. Guest mode keeps everything in the browser; the self-hosted server stores it in a folder you own.
- ⚠️ 10 of 596 server tests failed on my box, all in the optional AI Coach code. The workout tracking parts passed.
- 🐳 Docker is still the easy path for a real install with passkey sign-in and phone access over HTTPS. I only ran it locally.
"No Docker needed to try it. Two commands and I had a clean, private workout tracker running in my browser."
